Ninth Life Cat Rescue Receives $30,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada

Ninth Life Cat Rescue has received a $30,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada® to help prepare more pets in THE GREATER TORONTO AREA and surrounding areas for adoption. An estimated one hundred thousand pets make their way into shelters each year in Canada. In partnership with PetSmart Charities of Canada, Ninth Life Cat Rescue will bring adoptable pets to 6 PetSmart locations in support of National Adoption Week, taking place March 18 – 24, 2024.

With the help of this grant, the organization will offer increased abilities to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats in need. It will help us to reduce the number of cats left outside to fend for themselves, those facing euthanasia in overcrowded shelters, and aid with hoarding situations in the GTA. Ninth Life Cat Rescue recently rescued 21 cats that were abandoned in Hamilton, in partnership with another rescue that took in three pregnant females. The cats were significantly underweight and were infested with fleas and parasites. This grant money will not only ensure that these cats are vetted and ready for adoption, but it will also allow Ninth Life Cat Rescue to take on more large-scale rescue efforts in the future.

“This grant from PetSmart Charities is a game-changer for our organization and, more importantly, for the cats we serve,” said Julie Simm, Director and President of Ninth Life Cat Rescue. “The funding will allow us to enhance our infrastructure, rescue more cats in need, and find loving homes for them through PetSmart adoption centres. In addition to expanding our adoption efforts, Ninth Life Cat Rescue is committed to giving back to local communities through innovative initiatives. The program will actively contribute to ‘Community Cupboards’ and the proposal would work with our vets to provide low-cost spay/neuter options to help control the cat population and reduce the burden on owners.”

“Shelters across the country are struggling to keep pace with the number of animals coming in and need support from their communities to bring pets and people together,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “We’re proud to support Ninth Life Cat Rescue and the essential work they do to care and advocate for the animals that come through their door in need of loving families. Please consider supporting their lifesaving work through volunteering, fostering, adopting, or making a donation.”
PetSmart Charities of Canada National Adoption Week is a special time during the year. PetSmart stores feature adoptable pets to meet and cuddle in spacious areas, and staff and volunteers are on-hand to make introductions and answer questions. Potential pet parents can also learn about the products and services they’ll need for the best possible start with their new family members.
